I Did It

Well this past Saturday I completed my goal of running the Disney Half Marathon.  I started this journey back in August and have been through a stress fracture in my leg and days that I just didn't want to go out the door.  I fought my through it and have found a love for running.  I have run in six 5ks and one 10k and now a half marathon.

Got to Disney on Friday afternoon and went straight to the expo to pick up our race packets.  I tried to change corals but according to their chart I would run a 3:15 half, I knew better.  We got our stuff and headed to Port Orleans where we checked in then went to dinner at Boatwrights Dinning Hall where I had a meal of chicken and pasta.  Got to bed early since I had to be up at three to get to the start.  Didn't sleep great but got up at three and got ready for the race.  Headed over to Epcot on the bus with the other runners.  Walked to the starting corals, the walk to a while it wasn't like they were located right where the buses dropped us off.  Waited in the coral watching the video board.  Finally at 5:30 they sent off the wheelchair division then every seven minutes the next coral, I was in F so it was about 6:10 when I finally got started.  Settled in at a good pace and planned to run my own race.  Disney does a great job with the course entertainment and has tons of volunteers lining the course.  When we entered the Magic Kingdom it was a great feeling, running through the park feels great.  Lots of people lining the course in the park.  Left the park and headed back towards Epcot.  Everything was going great right up until just after mile 10, that is when we hit the first hill.  I walked smooth of that hill, then we had two more overpaces to go over, both of those took a toll on me and I walked most of the up hill portions.  Finally made it to Epcot, I noticed I was right with the Cliff Bar Pace team for the 3:00 pace.  Made sure I stayed in front of them trough Epcot then we headed out of the park and to the finish line.  Made sure I was running that last part of the course, gave Donald and Mickey both high fives at the finish.  Then it was over I had done it, I actually had run the Disney Half Marathon.  I had done it in 2:58:29.    I met up with my family which has supported me on this journey, I could not of done it without them.

The weekend didn't end there the girls still had the Mickey Mile to do so we headed over to the ESPN Wide World Of Sports.  Just relaxed for a while where their race started.  They got them started so the rest of headed towards where the race wold end.  We found a spot on the fence to watch for the.  We saw Lissa first end encouraged he and she finished then shortly after that Ashlee came by and finished.  I am very proud of the two of them. They did this with just a months worth of traing and very little running before that.  We then had a great dinner at the Japanese Steak House at Epcot.

So what is next for me?  Well in March I am running the Hooters to Hooter Half Marathon here in Fort Myers then not sure what.  I know I would like to do at least one more half this year.  In August I will start my training for the full marathon at Disney in 2014, might even end up doing the Goofy.  The two older kids have shown interest in doing the half next year and if they do I plan on doing it with them.  No matter what I will be doing the full.  I plan on doing lots of 5ks and maybe some 10ks.  I really enjoy the races even if I may not have great times.

No matter what I plan on finishing all races like I did Disney, with a smile on my face.  I will keep updating the blog with what I am doing.  I hope that maybe I have been an inspiration to others, if I can help one person shoot for a goal it has been with all the hard work.

About Time

It is about time that I finally did an update.  I'm sorry I haven't posted an update lately but it is that time of the year where things get put off.  Lucky for me my training. Wasn't one of those things but my blog was.  Sure I missed a run here and there but I put in good milage and feel that I am ready for the Disney Half.

Ashlee and Lissa have stated their training for the Mickey Mile on January 12th.  I don't care what their time is I just will be proud that they are trying.  Some of my runs have not been as long or fast as they should be since I am running with them.  I am very proud of both of them and will have a big smile on my face when they cross the finish line.

Back to me, on December 23rd I did my longest run to date, 13.13 miles.  My watch said it took me 2:49 and change to run a half marathon.  I don't think that is bad considering I just started running less than four months ago.  Based on my runs and how I know I run with people around me I think that I will finish the Disney Half in approximately 2:45.  That is what I am thinking but as long as I finish I will be happy.

I should have one more update before then but if not wish me luck.
